Held the evening of October 18, 2017, at Café Julia, Garden of My Mind celebrated creativity and the connection between art and mental health with good food, drink, music, painting and friends. The evening was opened with an oli by Kumu Brad Lum. Internationally-renowned Native Hawaiian artist, illustrator, and visionary Solomon Enos unveiled his stunning 6’x4’ Garden of My Mind painting and shared his thoughts on life, love, wellness, resilience, and how we can each rewrite our stories. A favorite quote from Solomon that evening is, “Let’s all love each other, real fast!”
Guests took home canvas piece sections of the painting and a commemorative event poster. Click through our photo gallery to see the message Solomon had hidden behind the painting! 10 art pieces donated by Solomon were given away by raffle to excited winners and a live painting by Solomon was purchased by supporter Doreen Nakamura.
Executive Director Trisha Kajimura and Advisory Board Chair Michael Broderick also shared words of inspiration and gratitude.
The event raised over $45,000 to help Mental Health America of Hawaii with our mission of promoting wellness through advocacy, education, and service, and gave us an opportunity to talk about mental health and wellness in an open and accepting way, reducing stigma and encouraging everyone to continue the conversation.
