Schizophrenia Education and Awareness Program (SEA)

Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi’s Schizophrenia Education & Advocacy efforts is to implement a three-point program that provides youth (13 – 22 years of age) who have not yet expressed potential risk for schizophrenia through the prodromal schizophrenia stage, absent of schizophrenia symptoms that have not yet had their first episode of psychosis.

Youth Tract – Evidence Informed Training Curriculum: The still in development curriculum, will be implemented in partnership with NAMI Hawaii. It will include a 1-hour education program around schizophrenia, including identifying its early signs, symptoms of psychosis, strategies to intervene, awareness of available resources, and how to seek help. The last 20 minutes of the training will incorporate NAMI Hawai`i’s Ending the Silence training, an evidence-based presentation that includes live testimony from a young adult who describes their journey to recovery.

Adult Tract – Evidence Informed Training Curriculum: The adult tract, which will target youth serving adults, and families with youth in their household, will be a modified version of the Youth Tract that’s appropriate for adult audiences.
