Outstanding Business Leader: Hawaii News Now comprises the Television stations KGMB, KHNL, and KFVE. They commissioned and broadcast the documentary “No Room in Paradise” which shed light on the root causes of homelessness in Hawaii. This production was the first large media project to illustrate mental illness as one of the root causes of homelessness.

Outstanding Community Mental Health Leader: Dr. Jeanelle Sugimoto-Matsuda is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine and leads the Prevent Suicide Hawaii Task Force. She has provided leadership in a number of community task forces, research projects and policy initiatives on suicide prevention and mental health.

Outstanding Community Mental Health Leader: Dr. Loraine Fleming served as Director of Behavioral Health at Queen’s Medical Center for the past 10 years. Her passionate beliefs about people, environment, health, learning, and nursing, together with her vast expertise in behavioral health science, have led to her tremendous contribution to Hawaii’s mental health community.

Outstanding Family Advocate: M. Pualani Kamaunu Basbas has served as a paralegal and mental health care coordinator at the Maui Family Guidance Center, as a volunteer on community organization boards in Maui, and as a Parent Partner with Hawaii Families as Allies. She has tirelessly worked in advocacy for more than a decade to improve the lives of children and adolescents with severe mental health issues and their families.

Outstanding Adult Mental Health Consumer Advocate & Government Leader: Randolph C. Hack is the Consumer Advisor for the Department of Health Adult Mental Health Division and has served in key roles with NAMI Hawaii, Mental Health America of Hawaii and United Self-Help. He has been a staunch advocate for mental health consumers in Hawaii for over twenty-five years.

Outstanding Youth Advocate: Waipahu High School Youth for Safety Club is a group of student leaders who advocate for the wellbeing and safety of students on the Leeward Coast. They have been strong advocates for suicide prevention, prevention of domestic violence, traffic safety, anti-bullying, and underage drinking prevention.
